In a groundbreaking announcement today, TiVo said it will finally let you choose what ads you're bombarded with. There are four possible categories of advertisements
automotive, travel, telecommunications and consumer packaged goods. These ads will feature the same technology that is used in internet-based targeted advertising, showing products TiVo thinks you'll like. According to Tom Rogers, President and CEO of TiVo, this is a new and innovative advertising solution that will result in a better user experience for the viewer. Well, just because I enjoy a good adult film from the hours of 2am and 3am doesn
t mean I want to see ads for dildos during my evening SportsCenter. Thanks, TiVo.
TiVo to Let Subscribers Choose Ads [DesignTechnica]

Beer ads me 4! Milwaukee's Best ones are funny. Too bad the beast still sucks.
From the article, the categories "will include automotive, travel, telecommunications and consumer packaged goods," so there will be more than just four. At least TiVo intends to show the ads separately from the content, unlike DesignTechnica and their use of those ridiculous IntelliTXT ads.
