"Um, the Scoville test does NOT "which is hotter than which" basis. It works on a similar principle to the 'proof' system that measures alcohol content - the substance is diluted until a particular measurable phenomenon starts or stops happening: In the case of alcohol, either water or 'pure' alcohol is added until the liquid starts or stops becoming flammable, based on the fact that a liquid that is roughly 50% or more alocohol can be set aflame. In the case of the Scoville test, the substance is diluted many thousands of times, until a group of test subjects can no longer detect ANY heat (so it tastes like water, and there's absolutely no burning or heat sensation)."
