<![CDATA[ Samsung Intros Digimax S700 and S1000 Cameras ]]> Samsung announced its 7-megapixel Digimax S700 (pictured here) and 10-megapixel Digimax S1000 digital cameras, both with a 2.4-inch LCD and a 3x optical zoom that functions in both still and movie modes.

The two models are similar except for that megapixel count and the S1000's ability to record MPEG-4 video, with the S700 supporting motion JPEG (MJPEG) video recording. That MPEG-4 video recording capability allows the S1000 to fit an hour of 640x480 video at 30fps on a 256MB memory card.

It's nice to see Samsung beefing up the video section of its cameras; let's hope the other camera makers follow suit. Both of these cameras will be available in August, with the Digimax S700 retailing for $250, and the Digimax S1000 at $350.

<![CDATA[ Samsung Digimax i6 Titanium Limited Edition ]]> samsung_i6_titanium.jpgSamsung rolled out its Digimax i6 camera at CES, and now it's added to that line with the swank-looking Digimax i6 Titanium Limited Edition it showed at the Korean Photo & Imaging 2006 event.

Even without its titanium skin, the camera brings a lot to the table with its music player on board and ability to play movies on its 2.5-inch display. Its 6-megapixel sensor uses a 3x optical zoom to get the job done. It's nice and slim, too, at just three quarters of an inch thick. Pricing wasn't announced on this titanium model, but it shouldn't be much more than the original black one, around $300.

<![CDATA[ Samsung Digimax L70 ]]> samsung_l70.jpgSamsung adds another model to its L series of digital cameras, the next-generation Samsung Digimax L70 with a 7.1 megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens. Despite its portable form factor, it has a nice big 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder, along with Samsung's newly-designed nine-key multicontroller on the back.

We haven't seen this multicontroller, but those nine keys make it sound like it's a bit more complicated than the usual directional controls. Introduced at the Korean Photo & Imaging 2006 event, the Korean name for this camera is the Samsung Kenox X70. There's no word yet on when it will get to the US or how much it will cost.

<![CDATA[ Samsung Announces Digimax L85, First Digital Camera with HDMI Interface ]]> samsung_l85.jpgSamsung announced the 8-megapixel Digimax L85, the first digital still camera with the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). Many newer HDTVs are equipped with HDMI, into which you'll be able to plug this camera and view its pictures quickly and in high quality. The L85 has a 5x optical zoom lens by Schneider Kreuznach, and a 2.5-inch LCD viewfinder.

For more advanced photographers, there s aperture and shutter priority as well as manual control, and Samsung's AEB (Automatic Exposure Bracketing) feature which takes a series of shots with slightly different exposures, ensuring that one of them will be exactly right.

There's also the obligatory 640x480/30fps video compressed with MPEG-4, and 11 different scene modes. Samsung says it s also improved the GUI, giving users what it calls faster and smoother menu navigation. The Digimax L85 will be available in April for $499.
