Sliding Mouse Speakerphone Is Cute, But Isn't a Skype Phone

This cute 800 DPI optical mouse with a built-in speaker slides out like a cellphone to reveal a keypad for VoIP calls. It has an LCD display for Caller ID and switches between mouse and phone functions automatically. It also looks much cooler than other combos we've seen. No word on price or availability. Razer vs. SteelSeries PC Gaming Gear Battlemodo: Which One Made Me a Better Gamer?

Not to be a prick, but I'm a better gamer than probably 80 percent of you. At any given first-person shooter, I will probably kill you more than you kill me, and by a decent margin. The point is, I'm good—but I'm no pro. I've actually always been skeptical about "pro" gaming gear, and the sliver of an edge you might gain by paying a lot more. I put complete setups from both SteelSeries and Razer—using my beloved, well-worn five-year-old Logitech gear as a control—through a rigorous multi-day Battlemodo to definitively answer a single, fundamental question: Will pro gaming gear make me a better gamer? Razer Death Adder Gaming Mouse for Mac (Wha? Mac Gamers?)

Sure, you might play a game or two on your cute little Mac, but that doesn't make you a gamer. (If you were, you'd have a PC.) If you're about to rear up and flame me, chill out, Razer has a new gaming mouse for just for you. The Death Adder is an 1800dpi righty with a 1ms response time. Say what you want about gaming on Macs, you can't possibly defend using the Mighty Mouse in fragfests. Death Adder drops May 20 for $60. [Razer]

LEGO Mousetrap Makes Mice Hate Danish Cheese

This LEGO mousetrap by Jason Allemann is pure, classic simplicity made of bricks. Created with LEGO technic, the trap measures 30 x 16 x 24 studs, and captured two mice that had decided to live in his home (one in the picture above.) The mechanism itself is quite simple: More »

Microsoft Wearable Mouse Patent Should Be Named "The Surf N' Jerk"

Microsoft continues their quest to bring Minority Report to life with a recently published patent for a wearable mouse from 2006. Now you too can wave your hands around like Tom Cruise—jumping optional—to control the cursor on your computer screen. The mouse is placed around the palm and activated by making a fist. The cursor moves based on a gyroscope inside which tracks the X and Y coordinates of your hand, much like a Wiimote. The handheld style opens our eyes to some interesting possibilities. More »

Show Your Flair: Microsoft's Notebook Mouse 3000 Now Comes in 5 Colors

Microsoft's Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 has been around a while, but just like the Model T, it came in any color so long as it's black. Those days are over, as the 3000 now comes in five—dare I say fruity?—new colors. The lineup includes Pomegranate, Dragon Fruit, Aloe, Milk Chocolate, and Creme Brulee. Too bad they all taste like plastic. They have USB receivers that snap inside when not used, and they run for six months on one AA battery. They'll be $30 when they are released to Best Buy in May and everywhere else in June. [Microsoft]

IOGEAR Fined $208,000 By EPA For Germ-Free Mice Claims

IOGEAR's Germless Portable Laser Mouse isn't quite so germless after all, which is why the Environmental Protection Agency levied a fine of $208,000 on the company for "unsubstantiated public health claims regarding unregistered products, and their ability to control germs and pathogens." In other words, these things aren't killing any germs, and you probably shouldn't be buying them in hopes that they will. And as a result of the fines, IOGEAR's also stopped claiming that their germ-killing mice (now just "mice") kill germs. [IOGEAR via Crave via Gadgetell]

Smitrix Swiftpoint Triped Mouse For Tablet PCs: Forget Those Annoying Pens

You have already seen the Swiftpoint Slider Mouse, a device that effectively makes your keyboard into one giant mousepad, and now we learn that there is a similar device made primarily for tablet PCs and multi-touch tabletop surfaces. Besides being pointier and cooler looking than the Slider, the Triped aims to "remove barriers to the growth of the Tablet PC market" by eliminating one of its major drawbacks—the pen. More »

Simtrix Swiftpoint Slider Mouse Uses Your Keyboard for a Mousepad

The Simtrix Slider joins the list of strange pointing devices like the finger mouse designed for mobile computing. Held between thumb and finger, it's designed to slide right over the keys on your laptop, making the whole keyboard a mousepad. Supposedly this offers efficiency savings, as your hands don't have to dart off to a touchpad or grab a mouse, and Simtrix says it may reduce the risk of RSI. Seems like a good idea, though we wonder how you avoid dt causing typos dçe] by ?- rando,m keypresse;'ss. No idea when you'll see it as a real product. [Simtrix via PCPro]

Evergreen Genius Navigator 365: It's a Mouse! It's a Gamepad! It's a Gamemousepad!

Evergreen's new Genius Navigator 365 is described by the English translation of Impress as "a USB gamepad deformed laser mouse", and we couldn't agree more. The mouse is 1600dpi, the gamepad has eight buttons and a D-pad, and it sells for $33 (¥3,499). Be warned, of course, that you get what you pay for. [Impress]

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 and 7000 Slim Down, Get Slanty Like Sports Cars

Perhaps the biggest deal about Microsoft's latest pair of laser miceLaser Mouse 6000 and 7000—is that they break from the standard form factor for MS grippers—less glaringly round, and more about lines and angles. They certainly look sexier than past models, but the big test is: How do they feel? More »

JediPad May Be Coolest and/or Fugliest Pointy-Clicky Thing Ever [UPDATED]

Our hats go off to Sam King aka Samu aka SunFish7, inventor of the JediPad, the most original rethinking of a handheld computer interface since the Wiimote. It's got seven pressure sensitive ThinkPad-style trackpoints plus internal gyros, so you can move the cursor by waving but change the speed and accuracy of the movement as needed, by pressing down on a trackpoint. There's a more intuitive circular pop-up menu system to go along with it for faster navigation. Sam's even built a crazy orange gyro hat for additional motion tracking (or else some high-tech form of "big pimpin'"). We collected a video and some more pics, plus the full JediPad backstory from our e-mail interview with Sam: More »
